A Wing and a Prayer
It was like jumping into another world!” Audience feedback
The soulful ‘bird woman’ is displaced in society and lost in time. This thought-provoking one-woman performance takes place within a raised nest installation comprising yarn, feather, thousands upon thousands of eggs and extraordinary “yarnery”, mostly debris foraged from her surroundings.
Viewers are taken on an exciting ride as she explores the significant transition points such as birth, love, and death, in the light of religious festivals becoming ever-more secular and commercial, replacing old rituals with materialism. The accompanying soundscape adds a layer of creative suspense to this haunting comment on social change as seen through the lens of this creature and her microscopic world. An aerial performance suitable for historical settings. Set design by textile artist Bronwen Harlow.
